Turkey’s internet usage statistics as of 2026 show two fundamental patterns: 92.3% of individuals aged 16–74 use the internet, while 56.7% of enterprises with at least 10 employees have a website. This page collects the latest data published by TÜİK, the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Trade, and the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), from the percentage of businesses with websites to e-commerce volume, in one place with source links. Each figure is accompanied by its reference year or period and the publication it comes from.

The compilation was prepared by Onur Freelance on October 7, 2026. Onur Freelance is not affiliated with TÜİK, the Ministry of Trade, or BTK, and is not an official publishing channel for these institutions. Figures were reproduced directly from the institutions’ own bulletins, data tables, and reports; the section containing commentary is identified separately. Does your business still lack a website?

According to TÜİK data, website ownership among enterprises with 10–49 employees is 52.3%. For a business without a website, the first step is to establish a scope appropriate to its needs: a one-page website starts from 12,000 TL, and a corporate website from 15,000 TL. Package differences are explained on the web design prices page; requirements are clarified in a free initial consultation.

Percentage of businesses with a website in Turkey (2026)

According to TÜİK, 56.7% of enterprises with at least 10 employees have a website in 2026. Enterprise website ownership increases with size: 52.3% for 10–49 employees, 75.6% for 50–249 employees, and 92.7% for 250 or more employees.

The 2026 figures were taken from the percentage of enterprises owning a website table in the TÜİK Data Portal; this table is an attachment to the ICT Usage in Enterprises Survey, 2026 bulletin dated September 10, 2026. In the previous year’s 2025 bulletin, the rate was stated as 51.8% for 2024 and 56.5% for 2025.

Website ownership by sector (2026)

The difference between sectors is greater than the difference by size. The highest rates are in information technology and financial activities, and the lowest in construction and accommodation and food services:

The scope note matters: the survey covers only enterprises with at least 10 employees. Website ownership among tradespeople, sole-person businesses, and microenterprises with 1–9 employees is not included in these data. Since the 2026 table was published using the NACE Rev. 2.1 classification, sector rows may not match previous years’ sector headings exactly.

The activity with the highest e-sales rate is accommodation and food services at 43.3%, followed by publishing, radio-TV, and content at 25.4%, and wholesale and retail trade at 23.7%. The lowest social media usage rate is in construction, at 40.7%.

The artificial intelligence data were taken from TÜİK’s Artificial Intelligence Statistics, 2026 bulletin dated October 2, 2026. According to the bulletin, the most common purpose among enterprises using artificial intelligence is marketing or sales, at 51.0%, followed by R&D or innovation activities at 46.3%.

Let us clarify the roadmap before starting e-commerce

According to ETBİS data, 634,611 businesses engaged in e-commerce in 2025. For businesses considering their own e-commerce website, payment infrastructure, product content, and shipping processes are planned from the outset; the steps are explained in the requirements for setting up an e-commerce website article. An e-commerce website starts from 24,000 TL; the scope is established together in a free initial consultation.

Marketplace or your own e-commerce website? Sales channel data

Among businesses participating in the Ministry of Trade report’s business survey, 48.8% use both their own e-commerce website and marketplaces; 39.5% sell only through marketplaces, and 11.7% only through their own website. These percentages reflect survey participants rather than all e-commerce businesses.

  • 81.5% of surveyed businesses are microenterprises with 1–9 employees; 42.6% of participants are in Istanbul.
  • 79.2% of businesses selling through marketplaces operate on a single marketplace; 13.7% sell on two marketplaces, and 4.6% on three.
  • The report states that businesses operating their own e-commerce websites have the highest adoption rates for nearly all sustainability practices examined.

Survey findings and ETBİS records measure different things. The figure of 634,611 businesses represents registered businesses engaged in e-commerce, while the 48.8% / 39.5% / 11.7% distribution shows only the preferences of businesses responding to the survey.

Social media user numbers (DataReportal, secondary source)

According to DataReportal’s Digital 2026: Turkey report, Turkey had 62.3 million social media user identities as of October 2025, equivalent to 70.9% of the total population. DataReportal is not an official statistical institution; the report is a commercial publication based on Kepios analysis and supported by We Are Social and Meltwater.

  • Internet users: 77.5 million, internet penetration 88.3% (end of 2025)
  • Social media user identities: 62.3 million, 70.9% of the total population (October 2025)
  • Cellular mobile connections: 81.9 million, 93.3% of the total population (end of 2025)

DataReportal specifically states on the report page that social media user identities may not represent unique individuals. TÜİK’s 92.3% rate is the result of a household survey among ages 16–74, while DataReportal uses the total population and a different methodology. The two figures should not be used interchangeably; TÜİK data is preferred when an official value is required.

What do these figures mean for a small business? (Commentary)

This section contains Onur Freelance’s interpretation, not an assessment by official institutions. The main picture emerging from the data is that customers are largely online, while on the business side, website ownership among smaller enterprises lags behind larger ones.

  • Difference by size: Website ownership is 52.3% among enterprises with 10–49 employees and 92.7% among those with 250 or more. In an environment where 92.3% of individuals use the internet, a small business without a website may be represented with less information in online searches.
  • Sector difference: Accommodation and food services rank low in website ownership (43.5%) but first in e-sales (43.3%). This may indicate that a significant share of sales takes place through intermediary platforms; TÜİK data does not measure this directly.
  • Channel diversity: In the Ministry’s survey, 39.5% sell only through marketplaces. Depending on a single channel can mean being directly affected by changes in that channel’s rules.
  • Age profile: Internet usage among ages 65–74 rose to 60.2%. Readable font sizes and mobile compatibility matter for visitors across a wide age range.

Which sections a corporate website should contain is discussed in the what a corporate website should be like article; the free starting step for visibility in local searches is covered in the is Google Business Profile paid article. For businesses planning quick visibility through advertising, management fees appear on the Google Ads prices page.

  • The 2026 website table was published using NACE Rev. 2.1; sector comparisons may not match previous years exactly.
  • Ministry of Trade data is based on ETBİS; sales channel percentages reflect only businesses participating in the survey.
  • BTK subscription numbers are not counts of people; DataReportal is a secondary commercial source.
