Google Ads consulting is a service in which an external specialist reviews the account and shows what to correct and in what order when the business owner or an internal marketing team manages the ad account. The person responsible for the account day to day makes campaign changes, rather than the consultant; the consultant diagnoses, prioritizes, trains the team and checks progress at specified intervals. Google advertising consulting is therefore a working model suited to businesses wanting a professional perspective without handing over their account.
Onur Freelance provides this service independently; it has no official partnership or representative relationship with Google. The service searched for as “AdWords consulting” is the same, because AdWords is the former name of Google Ads. The following sections cover, in order, the difference between consulting and monthly management, the areas examined in an account audit, access and ownership arrangements, deliverables and questions to ask when choosing a consultant.
Video transcript
What is Google Ads consulting? A specialist reviews the account, determines priorities and trains the team; the team makes the changes. The fee is determined by account size and support level. The fundamental difference is who makes the change. In consulting, the team implements; in monthly management, the specialist does; a free initial analysis is a one-time assessment of the situation. The advertising budget is separate from the service fee. The audit proceeds through seven areas and starts with measurement, because if measurement is wrong, every subsequent finding rests on incorrect data. Each finding is recorded with its evidence and recommended correction. The process begins with a free initial assessment. The business sends a read-only invitation, and the audit report is read with the team; training follows, and the account is revisited at agreed intervals. There is no fixed package. The proposal depends on the number of accounts and campaigns, campaign types, measurement condition, training scope and review frequency; the initial analysis is free. Documents delivered, questions to ask when choosing a consultant and pricing information are on the page. You can write on WhatsApp for an initial assessment. Onur Freelance dot com.
Let us start with a free initial look at the account
A free initial assessment is provided when the business shares through WhatsApp what it sells, where its ads run and what causes the most problems in the account. The consulting scope is prepared after this conversation and shared as a firm proposal; account access is not requested at this stage.
Who is Google Ads consulting suitable for?
This model suits businesses with time and a person to monitor the account, but uncertainty about what that person should prioritize. The account stays in-house, and knowledge accumulates there too; the external contribution is limited to direction and oversight. It makes the most sense in these situations:
- Business owners running their own ads: people who have launched campaigns themselves but cannot fully interpret which searches receive the spending.
- In-house marketing teams: teams handling Google Ads alongside other channels and wanting a regular external review point.
- Businesses working with an agency: those wanting an independent account review without disrupting the existing arrangement.
- E-commerce teams: stores wanting to see which campaigns use budget inefficiently as product and campaign numbers increase.
- Beginners: businesses planning to set up their first campaign themselves but wanting a plan and checklist before setup.
If nobody is available to review the account weekly, consulting alone is insufficient, because recommendations wait without implementation. In that situation, a monthly service directly managing the account is a more realistic option.
What is the difference between consulting, monthly management and a free initial analysis?
The fundamental difference is who makes account changes: the specialist in monthly management and the business’s own team in consulting. A free initial analysis is available for businesses wanting to see their account’s current condition; findings and priorities are shared in writing, after which consulting or monthly management can be selected. The three models compare as follows:
| Topic | Consulting | Monthly management | Free initial analysis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who makes changes? | The business or internal team | Onur Freelance | The business or internal team |
| Deliverables | Audit report, priority list, roadmap, training, periodic review | Setup, ongoing optimization and regular reporting | Findings and priorities shared in writing |
| Continuity | Review meetings at agreed intervals | Continuously, every month | One-time review; follow-up is optional |
| Required access | Read-only | Access with editing permissions | Read-only |
| Fee | Firm proposal after scope review | Starts at 9,000 TL per month, excluding advertising budget | Free |
| Who does it suit? | A business with someone available to implement | A business unable to devote time to the account | A business wanting an initial assessment first |
In all three models, the advertising budget is paid to Google from the business’s own account and is separate from the service fee. The scope of the model in which the account is directly managed is explained on the Google advertising management page, while the distinction between the two cost items is explained on the Google Ads prices page.
Which account areas are examined in consulting?
A Google Ads account audit proceeds through seven areas: measurement, structure, search terms, bidding, ad assets, budget and policy. The order is deliberate; if measurement is wrong, every subsequent finding is based on incorrect data. Each finding is recorded with its location in the account, impact and recommended correction.
Conversion measurement
The first question is what the account counts as a conversion. Google’s page on conversion measurementconsiders it very important to configure conversion actions correctly as primary (eligible for bidding) or secondary (observation only); incorrect settings can prevent Smart Bidding from optimizing effectively. The audit checks whether each action corresponds to a genuine business inquiry, whether the same inquiry is counted twice and whether phone, form, message and sales sources are fully defined.
Campaign structure
The structure review examines the logic used to separate campaigns: service, product group, region or brand and generic searches. Campaigns competing on the same query, unrelated keywords crowded into one ad group and ads sending all traffic to the home page are noted here. Location and language settings, ad scheduling and the Search partners preference are reviewed in the same section.
Search terms and negative keywords
The search terms report shows which searches actually triggered the ad, and the audit’s most concrete findings emerge here. Google states that some terms without sufficient query activity are excluded from the report for privacy reasons; the report therefore describes the visible portion of spending rather than all spending. Signs sought in the report include:
- queries related to products, services or regions the business does not offer,
- groups of terms spending money without generating any conversions,
- queries producing conversions but not added to the account as keywords,
- negative keywords accidentally blocking searches that bring business.
According to Google, negative keywords do not match close variants; synonyms and singular and plural forms must be added separately. In Turkish, a language rich in inflectional suffixes, gaps in negative lists are common because of this rule.
Bid strategy
The bid strategy’s compatibility with account data is checked: entering an ambitious target CPA or target ROAS in a campaign with weak conversion data gives the system a goal it cannot reach. Google says Smart Bidding strategies need a learning phase of 7 to 14 days and recommends avoiding frequent manual changes to budgets, targets or conversion goals during this period. Change history is also examined to see how often strategies and targets have been adjusted.
Ads and assets
Ad copy is examined for consistency between the search and landing page, whether headlines repeat one another and whether assets such as sitelinks, callouts, phone numbers and locations have been added completely. Disapproved or limited-delivery ads and assets are collected in a separate list.
Budget allocation
With budgets, allocation matters more than the total amount: a converting campaign being limited by budget while an inefficient campaign spends freely is a common audit finding. To work down from a monthly goal to a daily amount, the Google Ads budget calculator can be used.
Policy risks
Disapproved ads, account-level warnings and landing page or payment issues that may increase suspension risk are collected under this heading. If a suspension has occurred, the route to follow is explained in the Google Ads account suspended guide. Since paid search advertising for healthcare facilities and professionals is restricted by regulation, planning in this field is based on legislation before advertising; details appear on the SEO for doctors page.
Account ownership and access: which permission is given to a consultant?
In Google Ads consulting, the account always remains under the business’s own Google Account; the consultant receives only the access required for the work rather than ownership. Google’s access levels page defines five levels: Email-only, Billing, Read-only, Standard and Admin. Read-only allows viewing campaigns and using planning tools, but does not allow editing; campaign editing becomes available at Standard and Admin levels.
According to Google, only Admin-level users can grant user access, change access levels and accept or reject manager account link requests. Read-only is sufficient for an audit; since the team will also make changes throughout consulting, the consultant generally does not need editing permission. In an account with a single administrator, access to tags may be lost if that user’s account becomes unavailable; Google recommends assigning a second administrator against this risk, and that second person should also belong to the business.
Linking through a manager account (MCC)
Agencies and consultants often use a manager account to monitor multiple accounts in one place. Google’s manager accounts pageexplains that a manager account is a separate Google Ads account rather than an “upgrade” of the existing account. The link is established through a request sent using the customer ID, and users with administrative access to the account can remove that link at any time.
A manager account may also be granted ownership of a client account; in that case, the manager account can manage user access within the client account. Such ownership is unnecessary for consulting: audits and review meetings proceed through user access, and the business removes access when work ends.
How does the Google Ads consulting process proceed?
The process starts with an introductory conversation, becomes concrete through an audit report and continues with review meetings as the team implements changes. The steps are:
- Free initial assessment: the business’s objective, who manages the account and the most frequently reported problem are discussed; whether consulting or monthly management is more appropriate becomes clear here.
- Scope and proposal: the scope is documented according to account numbers, campaign types and training needs, and a firm proposal is shared.
- Access: the business sends the consultant a Read-only user invitation; the account password is never shared at any stage.
- Audit: the seven areas above are examined individually, and each finding is recorded with evidence.
- Report meeting: findings are read together with the team, and the implementation order is agreed.
- Training: the actions the team will perform are demonstrated using the account’s own screens.
- Periodic review: the account is revisited at agreed intervals, the impact of implemented changes is evaluated and the list is updated.
Work with businesses in Istanbul takes place in person, and work with businesses in other cities and abroad takes place online. WhatsApp and the phone line are open between 09.00–21.00.
Which deliverables are provided at the end of consulting?
Google Ads consulting deliverables are written and each can be verified in the account; verbal advice alone does not count as delivery. Standard delivery consists of these documents:
- Audit report: for each finding, its account location, screenshot, explanation of the problem and recommended correction.
- Priority list: findings arranged as “do first,” “do later” and “monitor”; measurement errors always remain at the top.
- Roadmap: a plan showing which change follows which; changes are grouped to avoid disrupting the learning period.
- Keyword recommendations: negative and new keyword lists derived from search terms, with match types stated.
- Conversion map: a table showing which actions will be primary and which secondary.
- Checklist: a simple list of checks the team will repeat regularly.
Progress is tracked through Google Ads change history. In Google’s definition, this tool lists changes made in the account, campaigns and ad groups within the last 2 years; for changes made through the interface, it also shows the email address of the user who performed the action. In review meetings, this record shows whether each item on the priority list was implemented; which result will be achieved within which period is not promised in advance.
Let us prepare the roadmap your team will implement
For businesses wanting to continue managing the account in-house while seeing priorities clearly, the first step is a free initial assessment. After discussing the team’s needs and the account’s condition, the consulting scope and firm proposal are sent.
Which topics are covered in team training?
The purpose of training is for the account to be interpreted correctly even after Google Ads consulting ends; topics are selected according to the team’s level and the audit findings. Work takes place through screens in the business’s own account rather than as a general course.
The first topic is reading the search terms report: deciding which query belongs in the negative list and which should enter the account as a new keyword becomes a habit. The second topic is conversion columns; once the difference between “Conversions” and “All conversions” and the primary-secondary distinction are understood, report numbers are not misinterpreted.
The third topic is the recommendations page and optimization score. Google’s optimization score page defines the score as an estimate of how ready the account is to perform and states that both applying and dismissing recommendations change it. Since the score can increase through dismissing recommendations too, it is not read as a measure of success; each recommendation is compared with the business’s objective and accepted or rejected accordingly.
The fourth topic is the “Automatically apply recommendations” setting. According to Google, this setting works at account level, and applied recommendations can be tracked through the “History” tab and change history. The team knows which recommendation types are enabled and checks this record regularly.
What should you consider when choosing a Google Ads consultant?
A good Google Ads consultant supports keeping the account with the business, demonstrates findings with evidence and does not guarantee results. Questions to ask and signs to watch during the first meeting:
- In whose name will the account remain, and which access level will the consultant require? A proposal requesting Admin access solely for an audit should be questioned.
- Can a sample audit report section or its contents headings be shown?
- Is the first topic discussed conversion measurement, or an immediate budget increase?
- Do recommendations include their reasoning, or remain at the level of “turn this setting on”?
- Are a particular position, cost per click or sales figure guaranteed? Such a promise is unrealistic because ad position is determined anew by auction in every search.
- Is it stated in writing that access will be removed and documents will remain with the business when work ends?
A frequently seen approach in general practice is to take over the account and send the business only summary numbers. In the consulting model, knowledge remains with the team: the reasoning behind decisions is written down, and account history remains readable even when personnel change.
What are common mistakes in Google Ads consulting?
The most common mistake is receiving the report but not following the implementation order; changing everything in the same week comes next. Mistakes reducing the expected benefit of consulting and the correct approach are:
Changing the bid strategy before measurement is corrected. Every bid change made while conversion definitions are wrong moves toward the wrong objective; this is why measurement sits at the top of the priority list.
Applying every recommendation at once. When many settings change on the same day, it becomes impossible to distinguish which change caused which result. Frequent changes also extend the learning period for campaigns using Smart Bidding.
Giving the consultant broader access than necessary. Admin access also includes authority to add and remove users; this level is unnecessary for consulting.
Looking at a single metric. Looking only at cost per click or optimization score overlooks the quality of incoming inquiries. If the landing page loads slowly, improvements on the advertising side remain limited; in that situation, speed optimization is planned as separate work.
Skipping review meetings. Search terms and recommendations change continuously; a roadmap without periodic review quickly becomes outdated.
How is the Google Ads consulting fee determined?
There is no fixed package price for consulting; a firm fee proposal is provided after reviewing the account’s size and requested support level. The factors determining the proposal are the number of accounts and campaigns to audit, variety of campaign types, current conversion measurement condition, training scope and frequency of periodic reviews. The initial analysis assessing the account’s current condition is free.
For comparison: the monthly service directly managing the account starts at 9,000 TL. In none of the models is the advertising budget paid to Google added to the service fee; the budget goes directly to Google from the business’s account. The initial assessment, which is the first step, is free.
Consulting or monthly management? Let us decide by reviewing the account
The team’s time and account’s condition are considered together in the free initial assessment; the appropriate model may be consulting or monthly Google Ads management . Those seeking only information and those undecided between the two models can write to the same number.
The same audit and training model for organic search is explained on the SEO consulting page.
The setup and targeting problems most often encountered in audits are listed with examples in the common Google Ads mistakes article.
Warning signs to watch regarding account ownership and billing are listed in the Google advertising agency scams article.

What is the difference between a Google Ads consultant and Google Ads management?
In management, the specialist sets up and regularly changes campaigns; in consulting, the specialist provides direction and the team implements changes. At Onur Freelance, monthly management starts at 9,000 TL, excluding advertising budget; consulting is quoted after scope review.
How much does Google Ads consulting cost?
There is no fixed package price; a firm proposal is provided after reviewing account and campaign numbers, measurement condition, training and review frequency. The initial assessment is free, and the advertising budget paid to Google is not added to the service fee.
Which access is needed for a Google Ads account audit?
Read-only access is sufficient for an audit; this level allows campaigns to be viewed but not edited. Access is granted by sending a user invitation from the business’s account and can be removed when work ends.
What is examined in a Google Ads account audit?
Conversion measurement, campaign structure, search terms and negative keywords, bid strategy, ads and assets, budget allocation and policy risks are examined. Each finding is written into the report with its evidence and recommended correction.
What is delivered at the end of consulting?
An audit report, priority list, roadmap, keyword recommendations, conversion map and checklist are delivered. Implementation progress is tracked during review meetings through Google Ads change history.
Are AdWords consulting and Google Ads consulting the same thing?
Yes, AdWords is the former name of Google Ads, and both searches describe the same service. The current interface and Google’s help pages use the name Google Ads.
Does Google Ads consulting guarantee results?
No; since ad position and cost per click are formed through an auction in every search, no result, ranking or sales guarantee is provided. Consulting commits to evidence-backed findings and an actionable order of priorities.
