At a glance: AI SEO, also called AI search optimization (GEO), means making a website eligible for selection as a source in answers from Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Copilot. At Onur Freelance, this work is not sold as a separate package: AI search optimization is offered together with SEO services. The monthly SEO fee starts at 9,000 TL; citation in AI answers is not guaranteed.
For some Google searches, a written summary appears above the results; ChatGPT answers questions with a list of sources, and Copilot adds footnote links at the end of paragraphs. The links in these summaries come from pages selected from the search index. This page explains the work done for visibility in AI searches, how it connects with monthly SEO work and which promises are deliberately not made.

What is AI search optimization? It means making a website eligible for selection as a source in AI Overviews, ChatGPT search and Copilot answers; it is offered together with SEO services. The work targets four surfaces: Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Copilot. Each finds pages differently. Google states that there are no additional requirements or special files for AI features. The foundation is the same; measurement is the area that changes significantly. First, AI crawlers’ access to the website is checked. Pages are arranged to answer the question in the first sentence, brand information is aligned and results are measured through three reports. No promise of citations, rankings or traffic is made. The commitment is the written scope of work and the report shared every month; unsourced statistics and artificial mentions are not used. Scope, measurement reports and initial steps are on the page. Send your website address through WhatsApp for a free preliminary assessment. Onur Freelance dot com.
Let us review your website’s position in AI searches together
When the website address is sent through WhatsApp, robots.txt rules, indexing status and brand information consistency are examined in the free preliminary assessment. The SEO scope and monthly fee proposal are provided the same day; checks for AI searches are included in this proposal.
What is AI SEO (GEO)?
The term ‘AI SEO’ is used for two different activities. The first is the subject of this page: work enabling a website to be selected as a source in AI answers such as Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT search and Copilot, meaning GEO. The second is using AI tools for SEO tasks; keyword grouping, content drafts or technical checklists can be accelerated with these tools. Tool use alone does not produce rankings: Google states in its explanation of AI content that it considers how useful content is to people rather than how it was produced. Onur Freelance’s AI SEO service covers visibility work in the first sense and is carried out within monthly SEO work.
AI search optimization involves reviewing crawlability, content structure and brand information so that generative AI answers can use a website as grounding and a source. In English, it is called GEO, short for Generative Engine Optimization, and in some sources AEO (answer engine optimization). In Bing’s guidelines, Microsoft describes GEO as work concerned with making content suitable for grounding AI answers, and notes in the same paragraph that this work does not promise citations.
The distinction from traditional SEO lies in where the result appears rather than in the objective. In traditional search results, the page is listed as a ranked link. In an AI answer, information from the page is summarized and the page is cited as the summary’s source. In both cases, the first condition is the same: the page must be present in the relevant search engine’s index.
Which AI searches are included?
The work targets four surfaces that compile answers from web pages and link to those pages; each has a different way of finding pages:
- Google AI Overviews and AI Mode: These appear as AI Bakışı and AI Modu in the Turkish interface. They use Google’s own index and ranking systems; pages crawled by Googlebot can serve as sources.
- ChatGPT search: Websites found by OpenAI’s crawler called OAI-SearchBot are displayed in ChatGPT’s search features.
- Perplexity: According to the company’s documentation, PerplexityBot crawls to display and link to websites in Perplexity search results; it is not used for foundation model training.
- Microsoft Copilot: Copilot runs on the crawling, indexing and ranking infrastructure used by traditional Bing search. Being correctly and currently listed in Bing’s index is a prerequisite.
In Turkey, according to the announcement on Google’s Turkey blog, AI Mode and AI Overviews became available in Turkish on February 18, 2026; these summaries can also appear for Turkish queries.
Why is AI visibility still SEO according to Google?
Google officially states that there are no additional requirements or special optimizations for appearing in AI Overviews or AI Mode. Search Central’s AI features documentation states that there is no need to create a new machine-readable file, AI text file or markup for these features. Its recommended practices are familiar from SEO: allowing crawling in robots.txt and hosting infrastructure, internal links, a good page experience, presenting important content as text, ensuring structured data matches visible text and keeping Business Profile information current.
The generative AI optimization guide published in May 2026 states the same position more explicitly: from Google Search’s perspective, work done for generative search is work done for the search experience and remains SEO. The guide considers artificially breaking text into chunks, developing a separate writing style for AI and pursuing artificial brand mentions to be wasted effort.
These documents explain why GEO is not sold as a separate product. Much of the work for AI searches is already part of properly conducted SEO; a separate package would mean billing for the same work twice.
Traditional SEO and AI visibility work: Similarities and differences
Both types of work draw on the same foundation; they differ in where the result appears and how it is measured. The table below compares how the main tasks within SEO apply to AI searches.
| Subject | In traditional SEO | In AI searches | Shared or different? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crawling and indexing | Googlebot and Bingbot accessing pages | Additionally checking access for OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot | Shared foundation, expanded crawler list |
| Content structure | Headings and copy matching search intent | Self-contained paragraphs answering the heading’s question in the first sentence | Shared; the direct answer is also reviewed |
| Structured data | Eligibility for rich results | Markup matching visible text exactly; no AI-specific schema required | Shared |
| Brand and entity information | Name, address and telephone consistency in local SEO | Writing business, service, person and location names consistently across all sources | Shared, with a broader scope |
| Result format | Ranked link | Source link or brand mention within a summary | Different |
| Measurement | Search Console clicks, impressions and queries | GA4 AI Assistant channel, Search Console generative AI report, Bing AI Performance | Different |
None of the differences in the table requires separate technical infrastructure; work marketed as ‘AI Overviews optimization’ also rests on the same SEO foundation. Measurement is the area that changes significantly: a page cited in an AI answer may be read without being clicked, so success cannot be assessed solely by visit counts.
How is GEO offered within SEO work?
AI search optimization is offered together with SEO services; it has no separate price, package or contract. The monthly SEO fee is calculated at a minimum of 9,000 TL; the website’s page count, industry competition, content requirements and target region determine the exact amount. How the fee components are formed is explained on the SEO prices page.
In the monthly plan, work for AI searches appears as checks integrated into SEO tasks rather than a separate line item. Technical crawling also checks AI crawler access. When a service page is updated, the direct answer at the top of the page is reviewed as well. AI-referred visits and manual answer checks are added to the month-end report. The general monthly SEO method is described on the SEO services page.
Google Ads management is a separate service; its monthly management fee starts at 9,000 TL, while the amount spent on clicks is paid to Google from the business’s own account. No package discount applies when purchased together with SEO.
For which businesses does this become a higher priority?
Priority rises for B2B companies whose services require explanation, service businesses frequently asked about prices and processes, and businesses with outdated addresses or telephone information circulating online. Since Maps results stand out in neighborhood-based searches, this work does not replace Business Profile and review work for local businesses, but runs alongside it; to request written reviews, the review link and QR code tool on the free tools page can be used. Who conducts the work is explained on the freelance SEO specialist page, while how SEO is planned on the same schedule as maintenance and advertising is described on the website management page.
robots.txt and AI crawlers’ access to the website
The first step is verifying whether AI search systems can actually reach the website. Ready-made security plugins, automatic bot-blocking options in content delivery networks or a robots.txt line added years ago can keep search crawlers out without the business knowing.
OpenAI’s crawler documentation distinguishes between two crawlers. OAI-SearchBot works to display websites in ChatGPT’s search features; a website excluding this bot is not included in ChatGPT search answers and may appear at most as a navigational link. GPTBot collects content that may be used for training foundation models. OpenAI emphasizes that these settings are independent; training crawls can be disabled while preserving the opportunity to appear in ChatGPT. According to the company, a robots.txt change may take around 24 hours to take effect in ChatGPT search.
During the review, the robots.txt file, bot filters at the server and firewall levels, and permission status for Googlebot, Bingbot, OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot are checked individually. Which crawlers to allow is the business’s decision. For a website wishing to remain closed to model training, a separate configuration can be written that keeps search crawlers open while blocking training crawlers.
Paragraphs that answer directly and page structure
Bing’s Webmaster Guidelines state that self-contained content is more likely to be selected for grounding and citation. According to the guidelines, definitions and facts should be stated explicitly, important sentences should not depend on implied information, and the actual information must appear at the address itself.
The short summary box immediately beneath the H1 on Onur Freelance service pages applies this principle. In two to four sentences, it provides the page’s answer, any starting price and the scope as plain text. The summary is not hidden behind an accordion or tab or written inside an image; it appears as plain text when the page opens. Since Google does not recommend breaking content into chunks for AI, page structure is built around the reader. The following points are checked on priority pages of client websites:
- Each H2 heading explicitly states the subject or question
- The first sentence under the heading directly answers that question
- Concrete information such as prices, timeframes and scope appears in text rather than images
- Each address focuses on a single main subject, with unrelated sections moved to separate pages
Structured data, entity consistency and Google Business Profile
Bing’s guidelines ask for clear, consistent use of person, organization, product and location names; they add that clearly defined entities improve citation accuracy. If a business name is written one way on its website, another in directories and a third in Business Profile, incorrect or incomplete information may be conveyed in an AI answer.
SEO work addresses this in three layers. Organization or LocalBusiness markup on the website uses exactly the same name, address and telephone number visible on the page; only social media and profile addresses actually belonging to the business are added to sameAs. The category, opening hours and service area in Google Business Profile are compared with the website. Finally, name, address and phone (NAP) directory records are reviewed, and entries with old addresses or numbers are corrected. Profile category, photograph and review settings are covered step by step in the article titled Google Business Profile optimization.
Structured data is not treated as a shortcut. Google says no special schema is required for AI features; Bing states that markup must accurately reflect visible content and does not guarantee visibility. Markup is used as a consistency tool helping the information on the page be read correctly.
Let us add AI checks to the SEO plan
Whether SEO work is already underway or just beginning, checks for AI searches are included in the same monthly plan. The free preliminary assessment clarifies which work should be addressed first; there is no separate GEO fee.
Content suitable for citation, author information and an update schedule
Google’s optimization guide recommends offering an original perspective and meaningful insights instead of repeating what others have already said online or text an AI model could easily produce. On a service page, this means the business’s own process, its own price range, problems frequently encountered in the field and concrete project information.
Every figure, date and technical claim on the page is supported; unsourced statistics are not included. Bing also says independently verifiable content is more suitable for selection as grounding.
For experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trustworthiness (E-E-A-T), blog posts include an author name linked to an author page describing the real person’s expertise and experience. Fabricated author profiles or biographies with stock photographs are not used.
Content updates follow a schedule. When prices, processes or regulations change, the relevant page is updated; the visible ‘last updated’ date changes only when a substantive change is made, because Google’s helpful content criteria cite refreshing the date while leaving content unchanged as a negative example. Changed URLs are reported to Bing through IndexNow.
How are AI-referred visits and visibility measured?
Official reports are now available for measurement, and each shows a different part of the picture. The following three sources are read together in the monthly report:
- GA4, AI Assistant channel: The Google Analytics 4 default channel group collects visits from sources such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Deepseek, Copilot or Grok in this channel. Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode are excluded from it.
- Search Console’s generative AI report: This provides the website’s impressions in AI Mode and AI Overviews broken down by page, country, date and device. Google made this report available worldwide to all websites starting August 31, 2026.
- Bing’s AI Performance dashboard: This dashboard within Bing Webmaster Tools lists how often the website is cited in Copilot and Bing’s AI summaries and which pages are quoted; it entered public preview on February 10, 2026.
Alongside reports, a manual review is performed every month. Several questions containing the business’s service and region are asked in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot and Google AI Mode; whether the brand is mentioned, whether address, telephone and service details are conveyed correctly, and which pages are cited as sources are recorded. Because the same question can receive different answers at different times, this is an observation for identifying incorrect information rather than a ranking measurement; findings appear in a separate section of the monthly SEO report.
Which promises are not made? The limits of AI searches
No one can guarantee that a page will be cited in an AI answer. Bing’s guidelines state this explicitly: just as SEO does not guarantee rankings or traffic, GEO does not guarantee grounding or citations. No promise of citations, rankings or traffic is made here either; the commitment is the written scope of work and the report shared every month.
Some tactics frequently marketed for AI searches are deliberately excluded:
- The llms.txt file: In its generative AI guide, Google states that Google Search does not use llms.txt files. If such a file exists on the website, it can remain; no effort is spent on it with an expectation of visibility.
- Expectations of FAQ rich results: Google has not displayed FAQ rich results in search results since May 7, 2026. Frequently asked questions remain on pages because they help users, but are not added with a promise of rich results.
- A page for every question variation: Google warns that creating separate pages for every search variation may violate spam policies.
- Unsourced statistics and artificial mentions: Fabricated figures and purchased brand mentions are not used.
A cited page may receive no click when users find what they need in the summary. The objective is more than visit counts: brand information should be conveyed correctly in answers, and visitors should turn into telephone, WhatsApp or form inquiries.
How does AI SEO work begin?
It begins with a free preliminary assessment, and the process proceeds in five steps:
- Communicating requirements: Send the website address and target region through WhatsApp or provide them by telephone.
- Preliminary assessment: robots.txt, bot filters, indexing, Business Profile and priority pages are examined.
- Written proposal: The SEO scope, monthly fee and reporting format are shared the same day; checks for AI searches are included in this scope.
- First month: Crawler access is corrected; GA4, Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools are connected; direct answers and markup on priority pages are reviewed.
- Monthly cycle: Content updates, consistency checks and manual answer checks are performed; the report and next month’s plan are delivered at month-end.
Onur Freelance’s office is in Gülsuyu, in Istanbul’s Maltepe district. Meetings within Istanbul can be face to face or through video calls; work with businesses outside the city and abroad is entirely remote. Working hours are 09:00–21:00; WhatsApp and telephone lines are available during these hours.
Let us see how your brand is mentioned in AI answers
When the business name, website address and service region are sent through WhatsApp, an initial check is performed using example questions in ChatGPT, Copilot and Google AI Mode. Findings and the SEO proposal are shared the same day; there is no charge for the preliminary assessment.

Frequently asked questions
Can the AI SEO service be purchased separately?
No. AI search optimization is offered together with SEO services; it has no separate price, package or contract. Monthly SEO fees start at 9,000 TL; checks for AI searches are included in that monthly plan.
What is the difference between GEO and SEO?
The foundation is the same: crawling, indexing, content quality and consistent brand information. Google states that optimization for generative AI search is still SEO. The difference is that results appear as sources within an AI summary rather than ranked links, and measurement uses separate reports.
What is needed to appear in ChatGPT?
The first condition is that OpenAI’s search crawler OAI-SearchBot is not blocked in robots.txt or the security layer; websites excluding this bot are not included in ChatGPT search answers. Next, the content must provide a clear, sourced and original answer to the question. Citation still cannot be guaranteed.
Is creating an llms.txt file required?
It is not required for Google Search; Google states in its generative AI guide that Google Search does not use llms.txt files. The file does no harm, but robots.txt, indexing and page content take priority for visibility.
Is special schema required for AI Overviews optimization?
No. Google states that appearing in AI Overviews and AI Mode does not require new markup or AI-specific files. Structured data is still used, but as a consistency tool and on the condition that it matches the visible page text exactly.
Where do visits from AI appear in GA4?
The AI Assistant channel in GA4’s default channel group collects visits from sources such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Deepseek, Copilot or Grok. Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode are not included; for these, refer to the generative AI performance report in Search Console.
Is citation in AI answers guaranteed?
No. Bing’s guidelines also explicitly state that GEO does not guarantee grounding or citations. The commitment is the written scope of work and the report shared every month; citations, rankings and traffic are not promised.
Is a frequently asked questions section still useful?
For users, yes. Google has not displayed FAQ rich results in search results since May 7, 2026; the section is no longer added with an expectation of rich results. An FAQ answering real customer questions briefly and clearly contributes to page readability.
Are AI SEO and using AI tools for SEO the same thing?
No. AI SEO usually describes work to make a website appear as a source in ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Copilot answers (GEO). Using AI tools for SEO means employing those tools for tasks such as keyword grouping or content drafts. Onur Freelance’s AI SEO service is visibility work in the first sense and is offered together with SEO services.
