Short answer: The person managing the Business Profile corrects the wrong location: in the location section of the profile editing screen, first correct the address text, then move the map pin to the correct point; the change goes live after review. Someone who does not manage the profile can open the business in Maps and report the wrong address through “Suggest an edit”.
When a location appears wrong on Google Maps, the customer goes two streets away, sometimes to another neighborhood, instead of reaching your door. The problem usually lies in one of three places: the address entered in the Business Profile, the map pin’s position, or an update Google made to the profile using information from other sources. If a Google business address change is not made at the correct layer, the correction either never publishes or reverts a few days later.
This article covers wrong locations and incorrect addresses. A profile not appearing in searches at all is a separate subject, explained in the my business is not showing on Google Maps article; steps for creating a profile from scratch are in the adding a business to Google Maps guide. Here, address editing, pin adjustment, Google updates, relocation, and reporting map errors are brought together based on Google’s official help pages. Onur Freelance is not Google’s official support channel; it cannot promise that Google will approve a correction.

Does your location appear wrong on Google Maps? First identify the problem layer: address, pin, Google update, or map data. A floor or number may be missing from the address, the pin may be on another building, the address may have changed by itself, or map data may cause incorrect directions. Go to Location in the Edit profile menu and enter the full address. If the pin is wrong, use Adjust to move it to the actual entrance, then select Done and Save. If the profile is correct but directions are wrong, search for the address in Google Maps, select Suggest an edit and Wrong pin location or address, and submit the information. If a user suggestion receives no response within four days, an update supported by public information may be published automatically. Monitor notifications and correct the old address on the website too. Do not create a new profile when relocating. Do not use a virtual office, add keywords to the address line, or keep changing the address during review. All steps and Google’s official sources are on the page. If the address breaks after every correction, you can write through WhatsApp. Onur Freelance dot com.
Let us identify the source of the location error together
Is the address wrong, has the pin shifted, or has an external update reached the profile? The profile screen and Maps view are examined together in a free initial assessment; steps the business owner can perform personally are identified separately.
Which layer is responsible when a location appears wrong on Google Maps?
Most wrong-location complaints fall into one of four layers: address text, pin location, Google updates, and map data. Editing before understanding the layer can unnecessarily send the profile for review instead of solving the problem. Our first check in location reviews is whether the profile’s address matches the map pin.
| Symptom | Possible layer | First place to check |
|---|---|---|
| Address text is correct, pin is on another building | Pin location | Location setting on the profile editing screen |
| Floor, unit, or number missing from the address | Address text | The “Business location” field in the profile |
| A correctly entered address changed by itself | Google update | Notifications on the profile management screen |
| Profile is correct, but directions still lead to the wrong place | Map data (road, building, entrance) | Suggest an edit in Google Maps |
This distinction provides direction rather than a diagnostic tool. The same symptom may have multiple causes, but it prevents steps that worsen the problem, such as creating a new profile or changing the address repeatedly.
Steps for changing a Google business address
The address is changed in the “Location” section of the Business Profile’s “Edit profile” menu. Google’s manage your business address page lists the steps as follows:
- Open the Business Profile and select “Edit profile”.
- Go to the “Location” section.
- Click the edit icon next to “Business location”.
- Enter the address details.
- Select “Save”.
The same page asks for the complete street address, including building, unit, and floor information. It also states that the address should not be described through a nearby intersection or landmark. According to Google, profile changes generally take 10 minutes to appear; in some cases, this can take up to 30 days.
Correcting a map pin: How do you move it?
If the address is correct but the pin is on the wrong building, the pin can be adjusted manually. Google states that if the address has no street number or the system cannot locate the business at the entered address, the business can be marked directly on the map. The sequence is “Edit profile”, then “Location”, then the edit icon next to “Business location”. Select “Adjust”, move the map so the pin points to the business’s actual entrance, then select “Done” and “Save”.
The most common map pin correction mistake is leaving the pin at the rear of the building or in the parking lot. Use the entrance customers reach on foot or by car; in multistory buildings, provide floor details in the address line rather than with the pin.

Can an address change trigger review or require verification again?
Yes, both are possible. Google’s edit your Business Profile page states that changes are reviewed before being published live on the profile. The same page explicitly states that if a business moves to a new address after verification, it must be verified again.
In practice, these two rules mean that an address edit may not appear on the map as soon as it is saved, and a real relocation may send the profile through verification again. Code, video, or review issues during verification are a separate process, explained in detail in the Google Business Profile verification problems article. Changing the address repeatedly during review does not speed up the expected correction.
What should you pay attention to during review?
During the waiting period after an edit is saved, the aim is to avoid sending conflicting signals to the profile. In our practice, the following rules are followed during this period:
- Enter the address only once, completely and in its official form; do not edit again for minor formatting differences.
- Do not create a second profile for the same business hoping “perhaps this one will appear”.
- Make the website address match the new profile address on the same day.
- Read Google’s emails and profile screen notifications regularly.
If the location still appears wrong on Google Maps after review finishes, the next step is checking whether an external update has reached the profile.
Google changed my address: How do you review Google updates?
If the profile displays an address the business owner did not enter, this is usually a “Google update”. According to Google’s understand Google updates page, Google collects information from various sources, such as user reports and licensed content, to keep profiles accurate. If these sources indicate that profile information is wrong or outdated, the profile may receive an update.
Timing matters for edits suggested by users. According to the same page, there are 4 days after notification to accept or reject a suggestion. If there is no response during this period, Google may automatically publish the update if other public information, such as the business’s website, supports it.
- Keep notifications enabled: If profile emails go to an unread address, the 4-day period passes unnoticed.
- Reject incorrect updates: Correct the information by editing the real address directly in the profile.
- Check the website: If the old address remains there, it can appear to support the incorrect suggestion.
- Monitor the Maps view: Compare the profile screen with its appearance in Maps at regular intervals.
In a substantial share of “Google changed my address” complaints, the actual cause is an old address remaining on the website, old listings, or directories. As long as the old address remains in those sources, an incorrect suggestion can appear supported by public information; the consistency section discusses this separately.
Let us correct the address record in one pass
If the address breaks again after every correction, the problem lies in surrounding records rather than the profile. The profile, website, and map data are reviewed together; the initial consultation clarifies which steps belong to the business owner and which to us.
Should a service-area business hide its address?
A business that does not serve customers at its own address should hide that address. Google’s guidelines for representing your business on Google page states that a service-area business must hide its address from customers and gives a plumber as an example. If a plumber working from home leaves the home address visible on the map, it violates the rule and brings customers to the wrong door.
The address is managed under “Edit profile” and “Location”. According to Google’s address management page, disabling “Show business address to customers” and saving hides the address from customers. The manage service areas page states that up to 20 service areas can be added and that the overall area should not exceed approximately a 2-hour drive from the business’s location.
Businesses that both receive customers at their shop and travel to customers are hybrid businesses in Google’s definition. They can display their storefront address while also defining a service area. A hybrid business does not hide its address; the shop location and pin are kept accurate, and served neighborhoods are added in the service area field.
Should a new profile be created when a business relocates?
No; when relocating, update the existing profile’s address rather than creating a new profile. Google’s move reviews across Business Profiles page explicitly asks users not to create a new Business Profile because of a physical location or ownership change. According to the same page, if a business moves to a new address and continues using the same business name, Google automatically transfers its reviews.
The page also states that this transfer may not always happen in some categories, such as hotels and golf courses. The usual relocation sequence is:
- Update the address in the existing profile and check that the pin points to the new entrance.
- If verification is requested again, complete the process using the new address.
- Change the address on the website, contact page, and structured data on the same day.
- If a second profile remains at the old address, handle its situation separately.
If a separate profile was created for the old address or the business is permanently closing, the approach differs; this situation is explained in the closing a Google Business Profile article. For problems with where reviews appear, consult the my Google review is not showing article.
How do you report a map error in Google Maps?
If the profile is correct but the address or pin appears wrong in Maps, report the correction through Google Maps’ “Suggest an edit” feature. Google’s fix a missing address or wrong pin location page provides these desktop steps: open Google Maps, search for the address, select “Suggest an edit” and then “Wrong pin location or address”, enter the information, and click “Submit”.
The same page states that corrected addresses can be seen by everyone and that multiple addresses must each be added individually. Google’s report data or content errors on Google Maps page states that suggestions are reviewed and that assistance with correcting map errors is available only in certain countries and regions.
If directions take customers somewhere else
If the profile address and pin are correct but directions take the customer to the wrong street or the rear of the building, the problem may be map data. Google’s error reporting page lists adding roads and correcting map information as separate options. In this kind of correction, there is nothing the business owner can do from the profile screen; the report is submitted through Maps and its review is awaited.
When submitting a suggestion, place the pin at the entrance customers actually use; do not move the business onto a more visible street or shift it to a nearby landmark. This mistake is common among businesses with wrong Google Maps locations and creates a new problem instead of correcting one. After suggesting the edit, test directions again from a different device and starting point.
Consistency of the website address and structured data
The website address should match the Business Profile address exactly. Since Google may publish updates supported by public information, an old address left on the website can create the basis for an incorrect update. The contact page and website footer are among the first places we check for businesses displaying wrong locations.
If structured data is used, update the address there too. According to Google Search Central’s LocalBusiness structured data page, name and address are required properties; geographic coordinates are recommended, and latitude and longitude should have at least 5 decimal places of precision. The profile pin and schema coordinates must indicate the same point.
Consistency extends beyond the website. Write the address in the same format in social media accounts, email signatures, and industry directories too; one old record can weaken the correction.
Common location correction mistakes and the correct approach
Some wrong-location problems arise from well-intentioned corrections made with the wrong method. Common practices and the approach that follows the rules are compared below:
| Topic | Common practice | Onur Freelance approach |
|---|---|---|
| Relocation | Create a new profile for the new address | Update the address in the existing profile |
| Without a customer-facing address | Use a virtual office or rented mailing address | Set up a service-area profile and hide the address |
| Address line | Add keywords or a website URL to the address | Official address information only |
| Google update | Ignore the notification | Review within 4 days and accept or reject |
| Review process | Edit the address again every day | One correction, followed by monitoring |
Google’s guidelines clearly provide the basis for this table: profiles are created for actual physical locations in the real world, post office and remote mailboxes are not accepted, and rented addresses where the business does not operate, meaning virtual offices, are ineligible for profiles. The same page also asks users not to add URLs or keywords to the address line.
Location correction checklist
Before correcting a location, check the items below in sequence. The list follows the order we use in profile reviews:
- Compare the profile address with the official address; check that building, floor, and unit details are complete.
- Check whether the map pin points to the entrance customers will use.
- Look for a pending Google update on the profile management screen.
- If the business does not receive customers at its address, verify that the address is hidden.
- Search for a second profile for the same business.
- Align the address on the website, contact page, and structured data.
- Test directions; if the problem persists, suggest an edit in Maps.
- Recheck the profile periodically after the change.
Most steps on this list are tasks the business owner can perform personally. The sticking point is usually recurring Google updates, verification again, or a duplicate profile.
When does specialist support make sense?
A one-time pin shift or missing floor information usually does not require a specialist. Support becomes useful when the address reverts after every correction, the profile is stuck in verification after relocation, a duplicate profile is suspected, or multiple branch locations need coordinated editing. If the location keeps appearing wrong on Google Maps and the source cannot be identified, an outside perspective saves time.

Frequently asked questions
What should be done first if a location appears wrong on Google Maps?
First check whether the profile’s address text matches the map pin. If the address is wrong, correct it under “Edit profile” and “Location”; if the address is correct but the pin is on the wrong building, move it with “Adjust” in the same section and save.
Can you correct an address on Google Maps without owning the business?
Yes. Open the business in Maps and select “Suggest an edit” to report a wrong address or pin. Google reviews the suggestion; for a lasting and prompt correction, the person managing the profile should make the change through their own panel.
How long does a Google business address change take to appear?
According to Google’s address management page, profile changes usually take 10 minutes to appear; in some cases, this can take up to 30 days. Changes are reviewed before publication, so repeatedly changing the address during this time is not recommended.
Does the profile need verification again after an address change?
Google states that if a business moves to a new address after verification, the business must be verified again. Minor address corrections are also reviewed before publication.
Google changed my address. Why does this happen?
Google collects information from sources such as user reports and licensed content to keep profiles accurate and may suggest an update. If user suggestions receive no response within 4 days of notification, the update may be published automatically if public information such as the website supports it.
How do you correct a map pin?
In the Business Profile, select “Edit profile”, then “Location”, and click the edit icon next to “Business location”. Use “Adjust” to move the map so the pin points to the business entrance, then select “Done” and “Save”.
Should a business create a new Google profile when relocating?
No; Google asks users not to create a new Business Profile because of a physical location change. Update the address in the existing profile; if the business keeps the same name, Google automatically transfers reviews, although this may not always happen in certain categories.
Should a home-based service business display its address?
Under Google’s rules, a service-area business that does not serve customers at its own address must hide it from customers. Hide it by disabling “Show business address to customers” in the profile’s “Location” section; using a virtual office or rented mailing address does not follow the rules.
Can Onur Freelance directly correct a wrong location on Google?
Onur Freelance is not Google’s official support channel and cannot promise approval of a correction. The work available is identifying the cause, correcting the address in the profile and on the website under official rules, and monitoring it; this is handled within local SEO services starting at 9,000 TL per month.
