Domain prices indicate the amount paid to keep a domain name registered for a specified period; payment is renewed at the end of each term, and the name remains with the same business only as long as renewal continues. At Onur Freelance, the annual fee for a .com or .com.tr domain is 1,000 TL, and the annual hosting fee is 2,000 TL; purchased together, the annual total is 3,000 TL. No fixed figure is given for other extensions; the amount is stated in the proposal according to the extension.

This page brings together not only figures but also the rules affecting them: information on TRABİS’s official pages for .com.tr and ICANN’s official pages for .com, renewal schedules, what happens after expiration, transfer steps, and whose name the registration should be in. Because finding a name and selecting an extension are separate decisions, they are addressed in the domain name selection guide, while all recurring annual website expenses are covered in the annual website cost article.

Let us clarify the desired address and extension together

When you send the domain name and extension you wish to register through WhatsApp, availability is checked. If hosting is also needed, the two items are combined into one written proposal and sent the same day.

Domain prices 2026: Onur Freelance annual fee table

The answer to how much a domain costs depends first on its extension: the annual fee is 1,000 TL for .com and .com.tr, while amounts for other extensions are determined in the proposal. Hosting is a separate service, and when purchased with a domain, the two items combine into a single annual amount.

ServiceAnnual feeNote
.com domain1,000 TLOne-year registration of one domain name
.com.tr domain1,000 TLAn extension allocated without documentation, subject to TRABİS rules
Hosting2,000 TLThe server service hosting the website’s files and database
Hosting + domain (.com or .com.tr)3,000 TLA lower total than purchasing the two services separately
Other extensions (.net, .org, .shop, .net.tr, .tr, etc.)Proposal according to extensionThe amount is stated according to the extension’s rules and registration conditions
Document-required .tr extensions (av.tr, dr.tr, k12.tr, etc.)Proposal according to extensionProfessional or institutional documentation is requested during application

If the same name is to be protected under both .com and .com.tr, two separate domain registrations are made, with a separate annual fee paid for each. Hosting package scope and selection criteria are explained separately on the hosting prices page.

In what order is a domain proposal prepared?

  1. Request: The desired name, extension, and any hosting requirements are sent through WhatsApp or by phone.
  2. Availability check: Whether the name is registered to someone else is checked; if unavailable, spelling or extension alternatives are discussed.
  3. Written proposal: The annual amount and registration period are shared in writing.
  4. Registration: Registration is completed after approval; entering the expiration date into the business calendar is recommended.

Onur Freelance is an independent service provider based in Maltepe Gülsuyu; it is not an official representative of TRABİS or ICANN. The rules on this page are based on these two institutions’ own pages, and WhatsApp messages are answered daily between 09.00–21.00.

What does the annual domain fee cover?

The annual domain fee is the cost of retaining the name in the registration system in the business’s name for the selected period; it does not mean purchasing permanent ownership of a name. Domains and hosting accounts obtained through Onur Freelance are opened in the business’s name. A name not renewed before expiration first becomes unavailable for use, then may become open to applications again.

Who receives payment also varies by extension. TRABİS’s frequently asked questions page states that allocation and renewal fees for .tr extensions are paid to the registrar rather than TRABİS. For generic extensions, payment is also made to the registrar where the name is registered. Therefore, when comparing two proposals, consider not only the amount but also whether the following items are documented:

  • Renewal fee: Whether the amount payable in the second and subsequent years is the same as the first year.
  • Registration period: Whether the proposal covers one year or several years together.
  • WHOIS privacy: Whether an option hiding the registrant’s contact information is offered and charged separately.
  • DNS management: Which dashboard is used to edit nameservers, MX, and other records.
  • Transfer code access: Whether the domain owner can obtain the code independently.
  • VAT status: Whether the amount is stated inclusive or exclusive of tax.

Because these items vary by registrar and extension, comparing domain prices using a single figure leaves an incomplete picture. Instead of assuming that an unlisted service is included, asking at the proposal stage and obtaining a written answer is more reliable.

.com.tr domain prices and TRABİS rules: what changed after 2022?

At Onur Freelance, the com.tr domain price is 1,000 TL per year, and this extension has been allocated without documentation since September 14, 2022. TRABİS is the central registry system for .tr names; applications are made through registrars on TRABİS’s list rather than directly to the system.

According to TRABİS’s launch announcements, .com.tr, .net.tr, and .org.tr could be obtained by submitting documentation for more than twenty years. In the new period, priority for these three extensions is determined by the moment an application reaches the system, and reserving a name in advance is not possible. The list of names closed to allocation (TAKAL) and the list of restricted names (TAKIL), however, fall outside the first-come, first-served rule; words such as bank, finance, and ministry, and city names appear on this restricted list.

Which .tr extensions still require documentation?

Documentation requirements continue for professional and institutional extensions. According to the table on TRABİS’s documented allocation page, the main requirements are:

  • av.tr: Allocated to lawyers, law offices, and lawyer partnerships; a current document from the bar association where they are registered is required.
  • dr.tr: Allocated to medical doctors and doctor partnerships; a notarized copy of a medical diploma or graduation certificate is required.
  • k12.tr: Allocated to schools affiliated with or approved by the Ministry of National Education and nurseries and daycare centers approved by the relevant ministry; nonpublic applications require an establishment permit.
  • gov.tr, bel.tr, edu.tr, pol.tr, tsk.tr, kep.tr: Reserved for public institutions, municipalities, higher education institutions, and authorized organizations.

Names previously obtained with documentation and ownership rights

TRABİS’s launch announcement states that existing domain owners could continue without additional action if their registrar was on the list. A .com.tr obtained with documentation under the old system does not change hands because of the rule change; general conditions such as renewal and accurate registration information remain applicable.

Existing owners were also given priority for names directly under .tr, such as ornek.tr. In three categories conducted between 2023 and 2024, public extensions could apply first, followed by certain organizations holding .org.tr, and finally holders of other extensions including .com.tr; after these stages, .tr names also began to be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Law No. 7590, published in the Official Gazette dated July 31, 2026, assigned authority over .tr names to the Cybersecurity Presidency; references to BTK in legislation are now considered references to this presidency.

Why do .com domain prices vary by registrar?

For generic extensions such as .com, the registrar where the name is registered determines the fee. ICANN’s renewal and expiration questions for registrants state that prices, conditions, and terms are left entirely to the registrar; TRABİS also explicitly states in its own questions that it manages only .tr extensions.

On the same page, ICANN attributes initial registration fees potentially being lower than renewal fees to promotions aimed at new customers and recommends reviewing renewal prices before registering. Registration periods are generally selected between 1 and 10 years; owners wanting to pay less frequently can ask their registrar about renewal options longer than one year.

At Onur Freelance, the annual fee for a .com extension is also 1,000 TL. Because no price difference is applied between .com and .com.tr when discussing domain prices, the decision depends more on where the target audience is and which extension has the name available than on price.

What happens if the domain renewal fee is not paid? Comparing .com.tr and .com

If the domain renewal fee is not paid on time, use of a .com.tr name is suspended for two months, while a .com name deleted by its registrar enters a 30-day redemption period. In both cases, the website becomes inaccessible and email tied to the domain stops working.

Subject.com.tr (TRABİS).com (ICANN)
Registration period1–5 years at a time; also does not exceed 5 years after renewalGenerally 1–10 years
ReminderThe registrar gives notice at least 3 months before expiration, at least by emailTwo reminders approximately 1 month and 1 week before expiration, and one notice within 5 days afterward
At expirationUse is suspended for 2 months; if no renewal request arrives during this period, the name is reopened for allocationThe deleted name remains in redemption for 30 days, then pending deletion for 5 days
New applicationsApplications are not accepted for 1 month for a name reopened for allocationOnce waiting ends, the name becomes available on a first-come, first-served basis
FeePaid to the registrarPaid to the registrar; redemption options and fees for expired names vary by company

TRABİS’s list of domains reopened for allocation publishes names not renewed during the two-month suspension together with the dates they will open for applications. The presence of many .com.tr and .tr names on the list shows that however low domain prices may be, delayed payment has concrete consequences.

For .com, ICANN’s renewal and expiration FAQ page states that a name in the redemption period can be renewed before that period ends. The same institution notes that the registrar may request an additional fee at this stage, sometimes called a ‘redemption fee’. If renewal reminders never arrive or a domain does not work despite a paid renewal, a complaint form can be submitted to ICANN.

What is a domain transfer fee, and how is a transfer performed?

A domain transfer fee is an amount that may be charged when moving a domain from one registrar to another. ICANN states that registrars can set their own prices for this service but cannot deny a transfer because the fee has not been paid; TRABİS recognizes .tr owners’ right to change registrars and transfer between registrars without documentation.

Regardless of extension, a transfer generally proceeds through the following steps:

  1. Unlocking: The domain’s transfer lock is removed in the current dashboard.
  2. Obtaining the transfer code: The code, also known as an EPP or Auth code, is obtained from the current registrar; according to ICANN, the registrar must provide it within 5 calendar days of the request.
  3. Initiating at the new registrar: A transfer request is opened by entering the code at the destination registrar.
  4. Approval: Approval requests arriving at the registered email address are answered; according to ICANN, the request is not processed without approval.
  5. DNS check: After the move, nameservers, MX, and other DNS records are verified to be in place.

ICANN’s transfer FAQ page also lists restrictions. A registrar may deny transfer of a newly registered .com name or one transferred within the last 60 days; a 60-day lock may also apply when the registrant’s name, organization, or email address changes. If the primary objective is a move, ICANN recommends considering completing the transfer before changing contact information.

There is no separate transfer figure in the domain prices table; for a transfer through Onur Freelance, the fee is stated in the proposal according to the extension and current registrar. If the website will also move to another server, the domain and files are planned together within WordPress website migration.

Let us check the expiration date and transfer status together

When you send the current domain through WhatsApp, its expiration date and lock status are checked using public registration information. Whether renewal or transfer is needed and the sequence to follow are explained during the free preliminary review.

In whose name should the domain be registered?

The general principle is that the domain should be registered to the company or business owner actually using it. The person or institution shown as owner in the registration is the party addressed for transfer approvals and ownership changes.

In practice, three different things are confused: the registrant, the dashboard account at the registrar, and the registered contact email. Even if the registrant is correct, renewal and transfer approvals can be lost if the dashboard is in someone else’s account or the email is no longer read. TRABİS requires application forms to be completed fully and accurately; ICANN also states that ownership changes proceed through approval sent to the registered owner.

If the name will pass to another person or company, .tr ownership transfer is performed using the registrar’s form and the documents listed in legislation; for .com, a registrant change is initiated through the current registrar. Because the route varies according to extension and registrar, the registrar’s conditions should be read before proceeding.

Trademark and domain selection: what to check before registration

Registering an address does not create trademark protection over that word; even if a name resembling a registered trademark can easily be obtained, it may become the subject of a dispute later. For .tr names, such disputes can be brought to dispute resolution service providers authorized by TRABİS or to court.

The steps for finding a name, selecting an extension, and trademark research are not repeated on this page; they are all explained in order in the how to choose a domain name guide. This section provides general information and is not a legal opinion.

Why does business email depend on the domain?

Business addresses such as info@firmaadi.com.tr operate through the domain’s DNS records; when the name is not renewed or DNS records are migrated incompletely, mail flow also stops. Domain prices should therefore be understood as a cost paid for the continuity of company correspondence as well as the website.

The MX record determines which server receives incoming mail, the SPF record identifies servers authorized to send mail on its behalf, and the DKIM record defines the message signature. If the registrar changes but nameservers remain the same, these records are generally unaffected; if nameservers also change, all records must be transferred completely to the new side. Selecting and setting up email infrastructure is explained step by step in the how to get business email article.

Common mistakes when evaluating domain prices

Most mistakes in evaluating domain prices arise from focusing on the first year’s figure without considering subsequent years. Common mistakes and the correct approach include:

  • Looking only at the first-year amount: A proposal selected without asking about renewal fees may turn out higher than expected in the second year.
  • Leaving outdated contact details: An unused email address means reminders and transfer approvals reach no one.
  • Relying too heavily on automatic renewal: Renewal may fail silently when the card expires; the expiration date should also be entered into the calendar.
  • Changing owner details immediately before transfer: A 60-day lock may be triggered for .com, delaying the move.
  • Assuming additional services: If the proposal does not state whether WHOIS privacy or DNS management is included, ask.
  • Failing to account for VAT: Two amounts stated inclusive and exclusive of tax cannot be compared directly.

If renewal dates, website updates, and other annual tasks are to be monitored in a single plan, the scope can be reviewed on the website management page. Domain prices are a small but unavoidable item in this plan.

Let us obtain the domain and hosting proposal in writing

Businesses wanting only to learn the price, deciding between two extensions, or wanting to register the name immediately can send the desired name through WhatsApp. Following the availability check, the annual amount is communicated in a written proposal.

For those wanting to move an existing domain from another company, transfer codes, locks, and waiting periods are explained in the domain transfer guide.

When the website and email stop working if renewal is forgotten, and the redemption periods, are explained in the what happens when a domain expires guide.

Frequently asked questions

At Onur Freelance, .com and .com.tr domains cost 1,000 TL annually, hosting costs 2,000 TL annually, and the two together cost 3,000 TL annually. For other extensions, the amount is stated in the proposal according to the extension.

No, the annual fee for both extensions is 1,000 TL. The difference lies in the rules: .com.tr is subject to TRABİS, while .com is subject to ICANN rules and the registrar’s agreement.

When hosting and a .com or .com.tr domain are purchased together, the annual amount is 3,000 TL. This amount is lower than purchasing the two services separately.

Documentation requirements continue for av.tr, dr.tr, k12.tr, bel.tr, gov.tr, edu.tr, pol.tr, tsk.tr, and kep.tr. However, .com.tr, .net.tr, and .org.tr have been allocated without documentation on a first-come, first-served basis since September 14, 2022.

Registrars may charge for transfers; ICANN permits this but states that transfers cannot be denied because the fee has not been paid. For transfers through Onur Freelance, the amount is stated in the proposal according to the extension and current registrar.

Use of an unrenewed .com.tr name is suspended for two months, and it can be recovered with a renewal request during this period. If no request arrives, the name is reopened for allocation, but new applications are not accepted for the first month.

A .com name deleted by its registrar can be renewed during the 30-day redemption period, and an additional fee may be requested at this stage. When the period ends, the name waits 5 days for deletion and then becomes available to others on a first-come, first-served basis.

If nameservers do not change, MX and other DNS records are generally unaffected and mail flow continues. If nameservers will also change, all records must be transferred completely to the new side before the move.
